FM Receiver Design for the Xilinx Spartan 3A FPGA Platform (M. Sc.)

Digital radio technologies such as Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) are available to the mass market since the mid-nineties. However, analog VHF-FM is still the technology of choice for audio broadcasting in Germany. Designing a modern high quality FM receiver exploiting today’s possibilities of digital signal processing on low-cost reconfigurable hardware is the focus of this thesis. The student needs to develop a hardware architecture for an existing FM software receiver written in C/C++. The final implementation on a Xilinx Spartan 3A FPGA platform should feature a realtime stereo audio output and the possibility to display additional data on an external display, e.g. the station label contained in the RDS data stream.
