PhD Position in the Area of Natural Language Processing of Legal Documents
The chair of Software Engineering for Business Information Systems (sebis) at the Technical University of Munich is looking for excellent candidates for a paid PhD position in the area of Natural Language Processing.
Your responsibilities
- Research & development projects in the area of NLU and NLG with a focus on legal documents in English and German
- Contribution to teaching on Bachelor’s and Master’s levels
- Supervision of Bachelor and Master theses

Your qualifications
- Distinguished Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science or a similar field
- Grounded theoretical knowledge and practical experience in Natural Language Processing (classical, rule-based and/or machine learning
- Fundamental Software Engineering experience
- Motivation to build innovative solutions involving industrial partners
- Major interest in applying NLP technologies to problems and texts from the legal domain, including but not limited to:
- Analysis of legal documents beyond the court
- Exploration of cutting-edge, interdiscipinary topics such as homologation and regulatory compliance
- Interaction with both technical and legal experts in the field of LegalTech
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead software development in distributed multicultural teams
- Advanced German and English language skills
